Phone Number Verification is a feature included in the XenVn add-on that allows Xenforo users to verify their phone numbers through SMS messages.
Verifying a phone number increases the credibility of user accounts and unlocks advanced features available only to verified users.
To use SMS verification, your website normally requires a physical device with a SIM card capable of sending and receiving SMS messages. XenVn can help you set up the required hardware and software (paid support is available).
Alternatively, you can use XenVn SMS Server, a free shared SMS processing service built into the XenVn add-on, eliminating the need to maintain your own SMS hardware.
How It Works
When a user enables phone number verification, the system generates a unique verification code and displays it on the screen.
The user must send this code via SMS from the phone number they want to verify and link to their account to the SMS server phone number displayed on the verification page.
After the XenVn SMS Server receives the SMS message, it automatically sends a verification request to your website.
If the verification is successful, the user's phone number is verified and linked to their account automatically.
The entire process is fully automated and requires no manual approval.
Configuration Guide
Open XenVn Settings and navigate to the Phone tab.
1. Enable Phone Number Verification
Enable the Phone Number Verification option.
2. Select the SMS Processing Server
For SMS Processing Server, select: XenVn SMS Server
3. Configure the Server Phone Number
In Server Phone Number, enter the XenVn SMS Server phone number. The server phone number is displayed directly in the add-on settings.
4. Configure the SMS Secret Key
In SMS Secret Key, enter a secret key of your choice.
A length of 16 characters is recommended. This key is used to secure communication between your website and the XenVn SMS Server.
5. Configure Verified Phone Number Groups
Use Verified Phone Number Groups to select one or more user groups that verified users should automatically join.
Once a user successfully verifies their phone number, they will automatically be added to the selected groups. This makes it easy to manage verified members and grant additional permissions or premium features based on group membership.
If a user later removes their verified phone number, the system will also automatically remove them from these groups.
Users can check and verify their phone number in their "Account details" section.
